1. You want to target the correct keyword and include it as an anchor text link - This means if you are targeting a page for "hot potatoes" make sure that the word "hot potatoes" is within the link itself. Here's the code to include the keyword in the link to make it an anchor text:

<a href="www.hotpotatoes.com">Hot Potatoes</a>

An anchor text link is much more powerful than just a normal URL link like "www.hotpotatoes" in terms of providing search engine optimization benefits. It is also a good idea to slightly vary your anchor text. For example, don't make every single link you create as "Hot Potatoes" make perhaps 70% of them as "Hot Potatoes" and the rest with variations of the root keyword "Hot Potatoes" such as "Sweet Hot Potatoes" or "Cheap Hot Potatoes". To make sure you get the most search traffic, do a Google Keyword Search Volume check on the amount of times the keyword variations are being searched for and target the ones that get the most volume!

3. Get reputable links from High PR sites - In the olden days it was much harder to get links pointing to your site. However, now we have article directories and web 2.0 sites! This is great for link builders! Now you can get links pointing to your sites and your articles with the anchor text that you choose from reputable sites embedded within the content that you control! So you haven't already, please do yourself a favor and log into these sites and get links to your own site:

Imagine this, if Kobe Bryant told the world that you are a great basketball player, then chances are you would soon be known to the world as a great basketball player. That's how the search engines work. If they see another site that is reputable for a topic and it points to you and you are also within that topic, then you get extra points! That's why it's imperative to get links within your niche pointing to your sites and pages. So does this mean that you'll have to do hours and hours of research to find related blogs and websites and send them emails begging for them to link to you? Not exactly...
