Tip 1 - Do not use free websites as your business base - What I mean is this, you need to have a page or website on a domain that you control or own. I do not recommending using free Web 2.0 sites as your business. Sure, you can use accounts on those sites to get more traffic to your site, but what you really need is a server and domain name that you own. The reason for this is that these Web 2.0 sites are owned by other people, and they have very strict policies regarding terms of use. If you somehow violate their terms of use, your entire business may be taken off the internet overnight! Please don't run that risk! 

 

Tip 2 - Do not send traffic directly to the merchant page that you are promoting, unless the traffic that is being sent is off a page that you control and own!  

Eg. 

You want to do this: 

Article > sends traffic to your site > you then redirect the traffic to the merchant page 

You do not want this 

Article > sends traffic the merchant page 

Now the reason for this is simple. If you make sure the traffic you send first goes to your site, you have the ability to capture the customer's email address.

Another very important reason for making sure you don't send traffic directly to the merchant page is this. If the merchant page is removed, you will have no ability to change the links on the articles that you do not own. However, if you send traffic to your site first, you can easily change links on your page to promote another offer.

Tip 3 - Make sure you always pre sell your prospects - The best way to make a sale is to create a strong emotional and desire for a product before they even see the product! So as a bare minimum you should be telling the prospects why they need the product that you are promoting. You need to tell them the benefits of the product and how it will help them. Read that again. Tell them how the product will solve their problem! What you don't want to do is list out the specifications of the product without letting them know that it is the fix to their problem! Once you do this you are able to create a desire for the prospect to take action and purchase the product! 

Tip 4 - Make sure you get your prospects on your email list - This one is so important but I still see so many affiliates who do not do this. Once you have a prospect on your page, if they don't buy they are gone FOREVER! That's really bad because you are losing potential customers! What you really need to do is make sure that you capture the person's email address and name so that you have a chance to market to them in the future, over and over again! 

It has been said that it takes up to 7 exposures of a product before someone will take action. So you need to make sure you are able to repeatedly present your message to your prospects over and over again. This is one of the best affiliate marketing tips I picked up over the years. 

The only exception to building an email list is when you are in a niche that has an urgent problem to solve, but once the problem is gone the prospect never wants to be reminded of your product again. An example of this is yeast infections. If you sell a yeast infection cure, chances are the person who had the yeast infection does not want to be reminded of the fact that they had a yeast infection in the past, so an email list here would not be helpful. 

You can build a list for any market, as long as people in the market have a strong desire to keep learning new things about it or that the niche is a hobby. For example, if you have a dog training site, you can make a list for it because people who own dogs always want to learn something new about their favorite pet! 

Tip 5 - Build a quality relationship with your list - What's the point of having an email list if no one listens to your recommendations and every time you send an email people trash it? 

Well that's why it's imperative to build a quality relationship with your email list! 

Here are some things you can do in order to ensure that you develop this trust and confidence in your relationship: 

A. Provide real quality information that offers value to the reader.
B. Make sure you keep in contact with your list on a regular basis (at least once a week)
C. Make sure the list is personalized with humor and things that make you stand out
D. Find a promote quality products that actually solve the problems that the subscriber has!
